Hi everyone!  I hope you had a great Thanksgiving!  There are a couple things that we have been asked to address.  First, as it gets colder, please please please make sure your student has a coat or jacket.  They are outside around 9 in the morning, and it is still quite cold at that time.  If they don’t have a coat, the administration has instructed us to have them borrow a coat from the lost and found for the day.  They only get to stay inside if I have a note or email (and have your student remind me to check for an email!), and then they will need to read during recess time.  If the temperatures are below 32 degrees, we will stay inside.  Another thing is, please double check that your student has a lunch.  Sometimes they forget to bring a lunch, and although the office has cup o noodles for those emergencies, it seems our kids are terrified to ask!  Finally, just a quick reminder that if your child is sick, please keep them home.  If they are coughing, throwing up, or running a fever, these are the worst times for them to be at school.  Some of my students have lung issues and are prone to getting pneumonia, so I would like to try to keep the germs away from them! I haven’t had problems yet this year, so hopefully we can all stay healthy this year!  Thanks for your help with this!

Our spelling words this week are:

haven’t
couldn’t
he’s
she’s
wouldn’t
peak
they’re
pausing
pleaded
examined

In math, we are going to wrap up our subtraction unit and start on division.  This tends to be a difficult unit for them, so we will be spending quite some time on this!  Any extra help they can get at home will help them greatly!

In language arts, we will be working cause and effect and contractions!

Thanks for all your help with everything!

Our spelling words for the week are:

In math we are continuing with multiplication.  We will be working on an Array City, which should be fun for everyone!  I know I have asked before, but if you haven’t grabbed some multiplication flash cards for your student from the dollar store, please do.  We are working on different strategies on how to find an answer, but ultimately these multiplication facts need to be memorized.  And the better they have these memorized, the easier division will be for them.

In language arts, we are working on main ideas and details, along with pronouns.  Don’t be surprised if they all come home humming the Sponge Bob tune!

Our Halloween party will be on Halloween from 1:45 to 3.  We will have an elementary wide costume parade first thing in the morning.  Please check the school blog for rules concerning your costumes!

Thanks for all you do!

Hi families!  We made it through our first “big” week!  Yay!  Thank you all so much for all of your support and willingness to work with me!  This coming week, our spelling words will be:

mile
spoke
erase
excuse
invite

In math we will be working on rounding to the nearest 10 and 100.  This tends to be difficult for the kids, so any extra practice they can receive at home will greatly benefit them!  We will be having lots of hands on activities to try to drive this concept home, but it does seem to be hard for them to understand.

In language arts, we will be working on conclusions to a story, sentence structure, long vowels and compound words.  They will come home this week with a math paper in their homework packet, this all needs to come back on Friday.

Finally, I am still missing a few parents on Remind.  If you haven’t already, please send the message @9464c to the number 81010!

As always, if you have any concerns or questions, please don’t hesitate to shoot me an email!
