Week of 4/24 to 4/28

Posted in Uncategorized | Comments Off

Hi parents and students!  Sage testing is here!  We will be testing on Mon, Tues, and Wednesday this week.  Please make sure your student is getting enough sleep at night, eating a good breakfast and is to school on time!  Most important though, please help them to understand that this isn’t a grade for them.  It will not go on their grades at all and won’t effect anything moving forward.  They will need head phones for this week and next, you can grab a cheap pair at dollar tree.  I apologize I didn’t realize this sooner.

Our spelling words for this week are:

taught
caught
thought
fought
brought
through
enough
laugh
sought
naughty

In math we will be introducing and working on perimeter and area.  This should be a fun, low stress week for them!  In language arts we will continue working on our main idea and supporting details.  The end is so close!

As always, feel free to drop in or shoot me an email!

Hi parents and students!  It’s getting so close to the end of the year!  Time flies when you’re having fun right?  This week, our spelling words are:

person
until
enjoy
forget
problem
order
mistake
picture
confusion
emotion

We will continue working on mastering our multiplication facts by doing timed tests each day.  The kids will have a chance to earn various parts of an ice cream sundae by passing off their timed tests.  They are really excited about this, so if they could practice memorizing these facts at home, that would be so great!  Also in math, we will be working on measurement.  This will be a quick unit, but it should be fun!

We have begun our review for the end of year testing in language arts.  This week we are going over text features and their purposes again.  We will continue to work on main idea and supporting details.

Finally, we will be having our Read-a-Thon fundraiser on Friday.  This will be a super fun day!  The kids are all really excited about it.  They brought home an envelope to get pledges, and there will be a lot of fun things here on Friday for them.  There will be quite a few things for purchase, so if they are going to participate, be sure to send some money.  They are more than welcome to bring a pillow, but we need to stick to our Friday dress code.  They can bring snacks of their own, or they can purchase snacks.  This will be a fun day for everyone!  I will have some books here that they can read, or if they want to bring books from home that is fine as well.

As always, if you have any concerns, feel free to drop in or shoot me an email!

Hi parents and students!  It was so great to meet with you all this last week at parent teacher conferences.  I love all your kids, and by working together I believe we can make this year a huge success for them!

This next week will be a short week (no school on Monday, 2/20).  We will continue to work with fractions in math, and in language arts we will be working on contractions and compound words.  Our spelling words for the week are:

birthday
sometimes
something

everything

Also, the school has started their Read across America challenge.  This will go from 2/17 until 3/3.  There will be a class from K-3 and a class from 4-6 who will win a Suessical Float party for the most minutes read.  Also, each grade will have an individual who wins a prize for the most minutes read.  I sent home a paper today with a reading log to keep track of those minutes.  Just a reminder, only the minutes read outside of school count.

Finally, I sent home a book order today as well.  Please have your orders in by February 26.  This is a fun thing for the kids to get books at school, and it helps to build our classroom library!

Thanks for all you do, and as always, feel free to drop in or shoot me an email!

Valentine’s Day

Posted in Uncategorized | Comments Off

Hi students and parents!  I just wanted to address our upcoming Valentine’s Day party.  We will be having our party on Tuesday at 2 pm.  We will not be making Valentine boxes or envelopes at school, so they will need to create one at home.  Also, when they are filling out their Valentines, just have them write who they are from.  That will make it a little easier for them to pass them out, and we can avoid feelings getting hurt.  Thanks for all you do!

Hello parents and students!  We are off to a new week here in the third grade!  This week we are going to be working on opinion writing and getting ready for our kids expo next week!  Our class will be selling friendship rocks.  We will also be working on text features some more, and helping verbs!  Our spelling words for this week are:

squeak
quick
check
squeeze
crack
store
throughout
passages
absorb
dissolve

I just wanted to put out a little reminder that your student should be bringing home 2 reading passages each week.  On one, I just want them to read it out loud ten times (and have someone initial) and answer the questions.  The other is our new Read Naturally passage.  This one is a timed reading.  Each day they need to read for one minute out loud, and as they read, you mark any words they miss.  Then you record at the bottom their words per minute (wpm) and subtract any errors.  This will really help them when it comes time for DIBELS testing again at the end of the year!

Lastly, a quick reminder about our spelling bee this week!  It will be on Wednesday (February 8) from 1-3 in the library.

As always, feel free to stop in or drop me an email!
