Hi families!  We made it through our first “big” week!  Yay!  Thank you all so much for all of your support and willingness to work with me!  This coming week, our spelling words will be:

mile
spoke
erase
excuse
invite
convinced
pointed
honest
guilty
stand

In math we will be working on rounding to the nearest 10 and 100.  This tends to be difficult for the kids, so any extra practice they can receive at home will greatly benefit them!  We will be having lots of hands on activities to try to drive this concept home, but it does seem to be hard for them to understand.

In language arts, we will be working on conclusions to a story, sentence structure, long vowels and compound words.  They will come home this week with a math paper in their homework packet, this all needs to come back on Friday.

Finally, I am still missing a few parents on Remind.  If you haven’t already, please send the message @9464c to the number 81010!

As always, if you have any concerns or questions, please don’t hesitate to shoot me an email!

Hello parents and students!  I just wanted to shout out a welcome to the first “real” week of third grade!  So far we are having a ton of fun!  I think it’s going to be a great year with these amazing kids!  Here are a couple things that I need you to be aware of.  First,  I sent home a little note to sign up for Remind, which is an app that Mrs. Durrant and I are going to be using this year to communicate more effectively with parents.  If you haven’t already done so, if you would please text the message @9464c to the number 81010, it will sign you up and you’ll get those text messages that will be coming!  Also, on Friday I sent home a packet for school pictures.  That is tomorrow!!!  Please ask your student for their packet and please send it with them to school tomorrow!  The students will be coming home with their first homework packet today.  There are two reading pages, and a cursive handwriting paper. With the first reading page (about the first lady) they just need to read that out loud each night and answer the questions on the back.  The second reading page, about the gorillas, is a timed reading.  This is the same type of homework they had last year, they should know how to do it.  We went over it in great detail today, but if you have any questions feel free to shoot me an email!

Our spelling words for this week are:

fine
proud
strolled
worried
certainly
lunch
swing
thing
clock
soared

In math we are working on recognizing place value.  I suggested to the kids that they could pick up a deck of addition and subtraction flash cards at Dollar Tree and practice getting those math facts down pat.  This is important that they are fluent in addition and subtraction before we start multiplying and dividing!  We will be heading into rounding and estimating soon, and this tends to be difficult for them.  We will work slowly!

In language arts we are learning about summarizing a story.  So after they read out loud to you, ask them for a quick summary!

Finally, don’t forget to sign planners with reading minutes!  This can add up to a lot of points that get missed if it’s not done :)  Thank you for all you do for your students at home, you are amazing parents with an amazing group of kids!!!

As always, feel free to stop in any time or shoot me an email!
