Read-A-Thon

Our Read-A-Thon is coming up on this Friday. Your students are able to bring their e-reader and any other school appropriate book(s) they would like. We will be reading independently,  as a class, and with our reading buddies. Your student has received a pledge packet with instructions of how to collect pledges. They will also be able to buy various things throughout the day. We will have a Sweet Shop where they can buy different treats and they can also wear slippers, brink a blanket and/or pillow, wear a hat, and many other things for $1. If you have any questions please let me know.

DNA Extraction

We did this during class today and many of the students showed interest in doing it at home. It is fairly easy to do and a great way to learn. I told the class that if they tried it at home and took pictures I will give them extra credit. I encouraged them to change something up. Try a different type of food, try a different kind of detergent, enzyme, etc. to see what would happen. I am so excited to see what your students try. :)

We will be going on our first field trip Tuesday December 12 to the Nutcracker. We will be going to the Peery Egyptian Theatre. I have sent home a parent permission slip today and I need that back and signed by Tuesday. I know this is last minute but the opportunity came to go and we took it! :) I have also included a parent permission form that you can print off and return if the other one gets lost (because we know that never happens!).

Winter Carnival

winter-carnivalThe Winter Carnival will be December 2nd from 5:30-8:30. You will not want to miss this! There will be activities, food, a silent auction, and many other great things! The 5th grade is making a basket for the silent auction. Our theme we have chosen is Pokémon. We are asking for donations that we can use in our basket. Please have them in by this Friday, November 18th.

Last week in Character Education with our counselor the students learned about interests and how they can turn their interests into a future career. Mrs. Rigby talked about Interest Inventories and how students can answer questions about activities they like or dislike, then they can actually see specific careers they may be interested in. The inventory she used in the lesson was the Holland Code Career Test and the students were very excited to try this on their own. So here is the link if they’d like to try it out! http://www.truity.com/test/holland-code-career-test
