I was born and raised in Manistee, Michigan a small town north of Grand Rapids on the shore of Lake Michigan.

As a child I loved to play all types of sports. Golf, baseball, and basketball were some of my favorites.

I attended public schools near my home in Manistee. Following high school, I attended West Shore Community College, and received my Associates Degree in Science. I then attended Central Michigan University where I received my Bachelors of Science degree with my major in Integrated Science.

I moved to Utah to start teaching kindergarten in Ogden, Utah. I had a tremendous first year and look forward to teaching at Highmark for many more years! I love to help students learn and achieve, and guide them to reach their fullest potential. I am excited to start the new school year!

Hello, my name is Keely Harper. I grew up in Corrine, UT and graduated from Box Elder High School. I continued my education at Utah State University and then transferred to Weber State University where I completed my Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education. I have had a love for children as long as I can remember. I knew at a young age that I wanted to be a teacher, and have a positive influence in the lives of my students. That dream has come true and I anxiously await the opportunity to teach the first graders of HighMark Charter.

My family lives in West Haven. My husband Clark, works at Hill AFB. We have one son Kasden, and two dogs, Sid and Lacey. In my spare time, you can find me outside; riding my bike, hiking, fishing, and hunting, or watching my husband play hockey at the Ice Sheet.

Whether it be through my educational or professional experiences, I have always worked with children and enjoyed every minute of it. I have been preparing to teach young students for many years. I look forward to this new journey in my life and look forward in helping to prepare my young students in their life journey.

She also serves on several committees including acting as the Secretary and Vendor Coordinator for the Utah Scottish Association and is a member of Kappa Delta Pi.

Mrs. Hill was a substitute teacher for several years while working on her degree and has taught in every grade from preschool through ninth. "I especially enjoyed the younger grades. The students come to school each day excited to learn and I get to share that with them. As a teacher, I get to help build strong foundations to make life-long learners."

I am a local girl born and raised right here in the Ogden area.  I graduated from Bonneville High school and married my high school sweetheart Matt Fawbush.   We moved to Washington State for about 3 years, but then moved back to Utah to raise a family.  I went back to school and finished my Bachelor’s Degree from Weber State University and started teaching in 2011.  I started my career in the Davis School District where I spent 5 years before making the move to Highmark so I could be closer to home.

We have three children who are the center of our life.  We spend our time at sporting events watching our kids participate in whatever activity they are participating in at the time.  We love to do pretty much anything and spending time outdoors is a plus.

I love teaching and watching students’ progress over the year.

Hi!  My name is Veronica Reeve and I am so excited to be teaching second grade at HighMark Charter School.  I graduated from Weber State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education.  My focus areas were in Art, and French.  I was born in France and I love teaching my second graders a little bit of French in the classroom.  I graduated from college, taught for one year in Iowa, and then took some time off to be a full time mom to my four children.  During that time I also pursued photography and, although I am still currently a photographer, I do it significantly less now that I am teaching full time.  I enjoy spending time with my kids, staying active, traveling, eating good food, photography, and most of all being a second grade teacher!  I am excited for a great year at HighMark!

I am originally from Murray Utah. After Graduating high school I went to Utah State University where I graduated with 2 BS degrees and 2 minors. Upon graduating Utah State my husband and I moved to Sandy Utah where we started our family.  I taught at Challenger School until we  moved to Layton. Shortly after moving to Layton I  taught at St Joseph Elementary. I taught there  before coming to High Mark. I have been at High Mark since the school opened.  I enjoy teaching at HighMark and being a part of the school community.  HighMark has a fabulous focus and it is great to be able to prepare our students for life after school is completed.

I love teaching and working with children. I love the day to day interaction and learning process. I love to watch the student's mind grow from the start of the school year to the end of the school year. Elementary students are a loving, imaginative, and fun group to work with. Most elementary students want to learn and show what they know. Students take great pride in their learning and being able to show what they have learned. I am lucky to be able to teach them and be a part of their growth.

I have several hobbies that I enjoy doing. I love watching and supporting my children's activities. It is great to watch my children doing things they enjoy. I enjoy baseball games and I also like to travel. My family and I try to take a trip every summer. I do have to admit Disneyland or attending a Cubs game is always on the top of my vacation suggestions. Other hobbies that I enjoy are reading a good book and relaxing while watching a movie.

I grew up in a small town called St. Charles Idaho. I started teaching at High Mark in 2015. I studied at Brigham Young University Idaho where I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. I'm the oldest of seven children, and always enjoyed playing teacher with my younger brothers and sisters. I would play the teacher and they were the students. When they would get tired of playing school, I would then begin to teach my stuffed animals. Looking back to my childhood I should've known exactly what I would choose for a career! But when I got to college I struggled for the first little bit trying to decide what I wanted to study. I started with Generals, then went to Theater Education ( I did some theater in High School), and finally realized Elementary education was the definite major for me! I have loved teaching the 4th graders at High Mark Charter School! I think my very favorite thing is to see my students have light bulb moments when they start to understand things that they either didn’t know before, or that they have struggled with in the past. I love seeing the confidence that comes from knowledge, and have experienced this in my own life as well as in teaching. I learn so much from my students and am so lucky to be able to “play school” for real now!!

I have always wanted to be a teacher. I can’t pinpoint an exact time in my life when I knew I wanted to be a teacher but rather all my teachers I had and the experiences that I had helped me make my decision. I love kids and I enjoy teaching them and watching them learn and grow.

I grew up in Rigby, Idaho and graduated from high school in 2010. I attended Utah State University and graduated in Early Childhood and Elementary Education in May of 2015. I started at Highmark Charter School in August of 2015 teaching 3rd grade. This year I am teaching 5th grade and I love it just as much. Teaching is full of ups and downs but it is so rewarding and I couldn’t be happier doing anything different. I enjoy coming to work each day and that is what my goal is.

In May 2013 I met a cute guy at USU and we went on our first date. We were married in November of that same year. He was at school to become a science teacher. We graduated together and after a year of teaching at a different school he decided to join me at Highmark where he teaches 7th and 8th grade science.

Some of my interests include reading, cross-stitching, and spending time with my family. I don’t believe that there is anything better than watching a good movie with family while enjoying some hot chocolate.

This year is my fourth year at Highmark Charter School. I taught my first three years here teaching 2nd grade and I am now teaching 5th grade (WHOA- that’s been quite the change but has been SO fun because I am teaching a lot of the same kids I taught my first year here when they were just cute, little 2nd graders). I have been teaching for 7 years, I previously taught at Roosevelt Elementary where I taught my first year in 3rd grade and two years in 2nd grade. I received my Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Weber State University. Teaching is truly my passion. Not a day goes by that I dread going to work, I absolutely love to see the faces of my cute students each and every day. I love to have fun with them and try to keep things as exciting and engaging as possible!

I grew up in Adrian, Oregon, a tiny town just an hour outside of Boise, Idaho. I am the youngest of 8 children which means I grew up with lots and lots of nieces and nephews and they were my inspiration for wanting to become a teacher. I absolutely loved spending time with them and it seems like we always had little ones in our home for me to "practice" on.

I moved to Ogden, Utah in 1997 to attend Weber State University. Soon after moving here, I met my husband Brady and we were married in 1999. We celebrated our 17th wedding anniversary in August- where has the time gone??? We adopted 2 little boys in 2008 and 2004. Brayden is a 7th grader here at Highmark and loves to play any and every sport. Junior High has been a whole new adventure for him and us as parents. Brock is a 3rd grader here at Highmark as well and loves being with his friends and family. He couldn’t be any sweeter. We also have 2 dogs. We love to spend our time as a family outdoors but it seems like running the boys around from place to place takes up the bulk of our lives but any time spent together as a family it is time well spent.

Danielle Lacefield

Danielle Lacefield

6th Grade

My name is Danielle Lacefield, and I just graduated from Weber State University with a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. It took me until my senior year in high school to begin realizing that I wanted to be a teacher. I grew up in West Weber, Utah, a little farming community west of Ogden, and as a child I spent my time building forts out of bales of hay and running around through the fields with my brothers and sisters. Growing up, I always dreamed of being a large animal veterinarian or training horses since I have always loved animals. However, while I was in high school, I worked for a vet, cleaning out stalls in her barn, and I saw all of the odd hours she worked and everything that went into being a veterinarian, and I quickly learned that being a vet was not for me. And, after training my own horse and working with one of my uncle's horses, I also learned that, while I loved training horses, I only wanted to spend time with my own. That and training horses isn't a practical job since there's no guarantee that you'll make money at it.

So, the summer before my senior year of high school, I was talking to my mom about possible careers while we were boating down at Lake Powell, and she mentioned that teaching is a good job. She worked at an elementary school for around ten years, and she always came home with funny stories about things the kids have said or done. I thought about it for a little while and decided it was worth looking into. Weekends and summers off? That sounded alright to me! Plus I always wanted to have a family and be a mom, and teachers have the same schedules as their kids do when they're in school.

After taking some teaching classes in college, I learned that there is a lot more that goes into teaching than I had originally expected, but I also found that the challenge invigorates me! I love coming up with new ways to teach and getting the students involved in the lesson. I believe that students need to be enjoying the lesson in order to learn. If they aren't enjoying themselves, they won't be listening as well. If they aren't listening, they aren't learning. I teach because of my students. They are what makes teaching enjoyable to me, so I want to return the favor and let them see that learning is fun.

I'm so excited to finally have a classroom of my own and start teaching! So, while this is my first year and I'm new at this, I'm thrilled to have this chance to teach 5th grade and to learn more about how to be a great teacher. I am so grateful to HighMark Charter School for giving me this opportunity. Thank you, HighMark!

Growing up, both my mother and grandmother were Kindergarten teachers, so I spent a lot of time in classrooms. I began to tutor in high school, and at that point I knew I wanted to be a teacher. I graduated from Weber State University in 2015 with my Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. I spent my first year graduated as a long-term substitute teacher. I subbed for both 4th and 6th grade.

Two years ago, I married my husband, Micah. Micah is currently going to school to become a physical therapist. We have two dogs, who we love very much. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, writing, knitting, crafting, spending time with my family, and going for hikes.

This is my very first year teaching. I am thrilled to experience my first year with my awesome 6th grade students. I am eager to continually learn and grow through teaching, and to eventually pursue my Master’s Degree in Education. I am looking forward to the many years of learning/teaching I have ahead of me.

Hi! My name is Torie Mitchell. I received my Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education and Special Education in 2010 from Macon State College. I was born in Georgia and grew up as a military dependent. In 2015, I moved to Layton after marrying my husband and we have two little boys together.

I have loved reading ever since 5th grade. I struggled with it up until that point but, it took one teacher and one book to turn that all around for me. I was so grateful to her for helping me through, that I decided that was what I wanted to do when I grew up. I wanted to be a teacher and help children find a love for reading. I still believe to this day that it only takes one teacher to change a child’s outlook on reading.

This will be my first year here at HighMark and I am looking forward to getting to know everyone!

While in Bountiful, I met my husband and we were married in 2012.

In my free time, I like to read, play golf and go to Jazz games. I love playing any sport from golf and softball, to spikeball.  Although, I like playing sports I am not extremely competitive, which drives my husband crazy. I enjoy being a teacher and getting to know my students.

My name is Staci Huffaker and I am very excited to be teaching mathematics at HMCS this year. I am originally from and still reside in Syracuse, Utah. I am happily married to my best friend, Jason Huffaker, and we have two daughters, Aubri and Sara. With all of their loving support, I returned to WSU a few years ago to complete a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Mathematics Teaching and achieve my dream of teaching math in secondary schools. (Thanks family!)

In my time outside of school, I enjoy camping, fishing, yard work, gardening, traveling, reading, and football (GO BEARS!). My favorite weekends are spent cheering on my girls in their softball tournaments, music festivals and ballet performances.

I love the Utah Common Core for mathematics and am looking forward to huge strides of student growth in mathematical thinking. Galileo said, "Math is the language the universe is written in." And I agree! To me, math is all about representing patterns. It is everywhere (from the shape of a river to the number of pencils in your locker). If you find the pattern..... you've found the math. Happy finding!

I was born and raised about 30 minutes north of Detroit, Michigan. After high school, I attended Central Michigan University, where I acquired my teaching certificate. I majored in mathematics and minored in geography. Sports and working with kids, has taken up the majority of my life. I consider myself athletically inclined, and enjoy playing any/all sports. Whether I am coaching, refereeing, or playing along with the kids I am always having a great time.

It was back in middle school, when I realized I wanted to be a teacher. The relationships you build throughout the year, make teaching one of the most rewarding careers one can choose. Teaching is something I love to do, however learning is my passion. I hope to learn as much from my students, as I intend them to learn from me. I look forward to another year at Highmark Charter School, as this should be even more enjoyable than the last. Above all expectations and requirements throughout the school year, I will push my students to their potential and beyond. However, if we aren't having fun, then we are not learning.

To the Tune of “Fresh Prince of Bell Aire”

From West Jordan Utah, born and raised in the classroom and sports field is where I spent most of my days, When I was 3rd grade I had a teacher that really cared so my mother sent me off to a place called Bell Aire ( Ok I actually went up to Utah State )

I pulled up to the dorm rooms around the year of ’08 and I said to my ride “ Yo Mom see you Later” got involved with club sports and having lots of fun I realized I loved learning and the time started to run. Studying some physics and chemistry after 4 years they handed me a degree.

When School was winding down and I was about to graduate, I saw this cutie and I took her on our first date, Hanging out was lovely and dating her was nice so we decided to get married and her mom threw lots of rice. I really loved Logan and playing with a Nerf and now I’m married to Mrs. Wadsworth.

So back to the sports I love to referee, Football, Basketball, and Baseball are the main three and Working with this guy his name was Alan Parts, he took me down to a place and we umped at Highmark.

We pulled up to the game about quarter to 4 my baseball equipment was on and I was ready to soar. When I was changing my position and getting ready to roll I met up with the principal she said lets set a goal. I explained that I was teacher and my wife was looking for a job, she said we want you too, come on with us Rob. I had one year away that ended up being lame, but now I teach at Highmark and Science is the Game!

This school really rocks and you students are great, I enjoy teaching with the wife cuz everyday is a date, Science and Wrestling are what I’m here to do, cuz learning and progressing will be up to you!

I was born in Utah and grew up in Taylor, a small community located in the rural part of western Weber County. A few years ago I purchased a home in Hooper and am enjoying living there. My hobbies include sports, wakeboarding, traveling, reading, and spending time with my awesome family!

I always wanted to be a teacher ever since I can remember. As a child I spent most of my summers playing school. I loved to teach "my class" which consisted of stuffed animals and my somewhat unwilling younger sister. After graduating from Fremont High School I began pursuing my life-long dream by attending Weber State University. I graduated in December 2011 with a Social Science Teaching Composite bachelor's degree. I later obtained my elementary teaching license. I taught 6th grade at Highmark for my first 3 years before moving to my current position as a junior high social studies teacher. I have also been involved with coaching at Highmark and love the opportunity to work with many students outside of the classroom environment.

Prior to teaching I had the opportunity of working for both large companies and small companies giving me a well-rounded understanding of business and how it works. I hope to instill the mission of the school into my student's minds and want to prepare them to be as successful as possible. I believe that the education of today's youth is the most important imprint we can make on the future.

I was born in Utica New York but grew up in Dayton Ohio I am and always will be a Buckeye! I graduated from Wayne High School as part of the Bicentennial class of 1976. On January 20th of 1977 I entered the United States Air Force and spent the next 13 years in 8 states and 2 other countries I was honorably discharged in September of 1989 at Hill AFB, which is how I ended up in Utah. On December 23rd, 1988 I married my wife Tammy after convincing her to leave her lifelong home in Northern Michigan and move to Utah. I graduated from Weber State University in 1995 with a Bachelor of Science with a major in history and a minor in political science. In 2005 I again graduated from Weber State University this time with a Masters of Education in Curriculum Design and Instruction.

I have always been interested in studying and reading history one of my earliest memories was listening to Tchaikovsky 1812 Overture and asking my dad what the music was about, that’s when I first learned about Napoleon and the Napoleonic wars from then I was hooked. I continued by love of history in the USAF as I began studying the Soviet Union and Russia this expanded my interest in history from strictly the United States to World history. I love teaching and have been teaching Secondary Social Studies for over 16 years. I have taught all grade levels from the 7th through the 12th grade and for the past 7 years I have been involved in grading the national Advanced Place US History test. I am looking forward this year to teaching here at HighMark not only because of students but because this year I have the pleasure of teaching with one of more former students, Clayton Jackson. I have had the honor of leading students on missions’ trips to Mexico as well as trips to numerous historical sites and events such as President Obama’s first inaugural, Gettysburg, Boston, and New York City.

When I am not teaching at HighMark or at my church Kaysville Bible Church, I can be found reading (surprise) history, building plastic models, walking my German Shorthaired Pointer Brinkley, or spending time with my beautiful wife Tammy.

I was born and raised in College Station, Texas as the middle child of three. We moved to Utah when I was seven years old and have lived here ever since. I attended Christian Heritage High School before attending Weber State University where I graduated in April of 2013 with a Bachelors of Science in History Education and a minor in Physical Education and Coaching.

Growing up I didn't know I wanted to be a teacher but that all changed when I got the chance to coach at my old high school with my brother's basketball team. Getting to coach was the greatest thing that I had ever been privileged to do because I was able to impact young people for the better, and not just on the court but off it as well. Teaching kids how to reach their potential as athletes, students and people made me want to become a teacher.

I have been blessed to travel in my life. I have been on different church mission trips to Kansas, Sacramento and Mexico. I was also lucky enough to get the chance to go overseas to Italy and Israel with FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) and do Christian sports camps.

I am so excited to be back here at Highmark for another year – I am thrilled to get to know all of the students in my class and to begin to impart to them the joy and passion I have for sports/physical activity and history. When I am not teaching or coaching I enjoy spending time with my wife Auriel (we just got married in March 2014, life couldn’t be any better) and playing any sports I can, especially basketball and baseball.

I was raised in Naperville, Illinois and Pleasant View, Utah as one of five children. I went to Weber High School in North Ogden, Utah until my senior year when my parents were called on a LDS mission to New York. My senior year was a great learning experience at Whitesboro High School in upstate New York where the winters are harsh, but the summers are green and lush. I've also lived in Cleveland, Ohio and Raleigh, North Carolina where I served my LDS mission.

I received my first Bachelor Degree in Technical Sales at Weber State University and immediately got into small and large business sales. I sold for multiple companies including; Cisco Networking, Zions Bank, Suntrust Bank, and The Standard Examiner. Although the money was motivating, business sales failed to give me the career satisfaction I was looking for.

Through the leadership positions that I held in Boy Scouts and the LDS Young Men organization, I realized that teaching youth was the career I was looking for. I then went back to Weber State University for my second Bachelor Degree in Teaching Physical Education and Health. After receiving my teaching certificate, I taught Physical Education full time at Copperview Elementary School in Midvale, Utah.

When I'm not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my wife and son. On the weekends, I work with at-risk youth at a boarding school in Ogden. Some of my interests and hobbies include: traveling, fishing, mixed martial arts, breakdancing, and all kinds of sports.

I have loved music all my life! I grew up in Portland, Oregon and Colorado Springs, CO where I pursued training in piano and trumpet. I began taking piano lessons at age 7 and trumpet lessons starting at age 11. I moved to Utah at the age of 16. Here I furthered my musical education through private lessons. I attended Utah State University and graduated with a degree in music education. During my years at USU I was a member of many performing groups, including the Wind Ensemble, Brass Quintet, multiple Jazz Combos, multiple Jazz Bands, Symphony Orchestra and the Marching Band. I also had the great opportunity to serve as Drum Major my senior year.

I am married to my beautiful wife Christina and I have three cute little boys. I love having fun outside, playing and watching sports, especially Real Salt Lake, and spending quality time with his family. I served a two year mission for his church in Siberia, Russia, and still speak fluent Russian. My teaching style is an intrinsically-motivated musical learning system. Meaning that the student should love to play the music because it is fun, and the music should
never be forced or coerced. True music happens when the student is free to explore his or her own
avenues and spend time playing things they like. I am a highly talented and effective teacher. Most of
all, though, I am passionate about music and that passion rubs off on everyone around me.

I am so excited to be a part of HighMark this year!

I also love to travel and have visited most of the United States, Europe, and have lived in Korea. I got married in 2006 to my amazing husband who teaches at North Layton Jr. High, and have three awesome boys that keep me super busy.

I graduated from Utah State University in 2008 with a Master in Education in Speech Language Pathology and have worked continually with students ranging from preschool to 9th grade since that time, in a variety of educational settings. I love the diversity that comes with each age group and continue to learn so much from my students. It truly is a pleasure to help them achieve success. I strive to make parental involvement and parent/student/therapist communication an integral part of the therapy. Please know you are always welcome to contact me. I can best be reached at bbuchanan@hmcharterschool.org.

I am a mother of two sweet boys and a wife of a handsome husband. We love to spend time together, especially in the outdoors. In my spare time, you can find me curled up with a good book, shopping, scrapbooking, and of course eating chocolate!

I will be at Highmark on Monday and Wednesday each week.

This is my fourth year as a school counselor (3rd year at HighMark) and without a doubt I made the right career choice! I grew up in Kaysville, UT and graduated from Davis High School. I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology with a minor in Sociology from Weber State University in 2009. I received my Master of Science degree in Psychology from Utah State University and license as a School Counselor in 2013.

My husband and I live in Layton. We have 2 adorable boys together, James and Hunter. And I’m so excited for the opportunity to have my 2nd grader, James, be here to HighMark with me! And next year Hunter will get to come here for Kindergarten. In my spare time (what’s that??) I like to watch movies, play board games, and play classic Nintendo. I also love to go out to dinner and watch movies!

I love working with your students. This is a fantastic school to work at. Please be sure to visit my website for a ton of great information and resources: HighMarkCounseling.weebly.com.

I grew up always wanting to be a teacher. As a little girl I would play school and dream about having my own classroom. After graduating high school I moved to Logan and attended Utah State University for four years. I enjoyed every minute of the time I had there. In 2015 I graduated with an early childhood and elementary education degree. I spent my first year teaching 4th grade in American Fork. I am now excited to be teaching here at HighMark.

I have spent my whole life in Utah. Some the things I enjoy doing here are camping, hiking, fishing, and anything outdoors. The mountains are my happy place. I also enjoy crafts, cooking, sewing, and playing the piano. In high school I participated in choir, and school plays, and continue to enjoy these things today.

In 2016 I married my sweet husband Benjamin. We both grew up in Roy but did not meet each other until after I graduated college and moved home for a summer before I began teaching in American Fork. We are excited for our life together and for the adventures to come.
